Zantedeschia aethiopica 'White Giant'
Zantedeschia aethiopica 'White Giant' is a large-growing cultivar of Arum Lily with dramatic white-speckled foliage. Such foliage is unusual for Zantedeschia aethiopica which commonly has green foliage without any spots. This maculation on the leaves is also somewhat different from other Zantedeschias that have speckled foliage. If one compares it side-by-side with the patterns on Zantedeschhia albomaculata or Zantedeschia elliottiana the difference becomes obvious although not entirely easy to describe. A characteristic of leaf maculation is its random and irregular nature. One can only say that in Zantedeschia aethiopica 'White Giant' the maculation is decidedly more random and more irregular. Maculation gone mad. Archipelago-like flecks.
As with all forms of Zantedeschia aethiopica, the 'White Giant' cultivar likes to have its feet wet and keeping it well watered throughout the summer is essential for good lush growth. Which brings us to that other characteristic of Zantedeschia aethiopica 'White Giant' that will have no doubt attracted you to it: it's size. This is a plant that doesn't like being restricted. It needs a good root run. Growth in a container will never deliver the 'Giant' part of the epithet. Give it a moist fertile soil in a warm sheltered aspect of the garden - either in sun or partially-shaded and don't be shy to give it an extra feed. It will take time for it to achieve a good size and it won't happen without active cultivation.
