Tulipa saxatilis, Cretan Rock Tulip, is endemic to Crete and is also found on Rhodes, Kaparthos and SW Turkey. It has very showy pale lilac-pink flowers with a large contrasting basal blotch of bright golden yellow. There are usually several flowers per stem and they open wide, flattening out to a large six-pointed star surrounding a yellow sun. Tulipa saxatilis spreads by stolons and quickly naturalises to form a large patch.
