Hydrangea peruviana
Hydrangea peruviana is a choice relatively-rare climbing Hydrangea found at elevations of 1000-3000m - often in the cloud-forest - from Mexico down to Peru where it fixes itself to large trees with its adventitious clinging aerial roots, growing hemiephiphytically on its host and clambering through from deep shade to the upper story of the canopy. Sometimes listed as one of its synonyms, Hydrangea seemannii, it has an elegant liana-like growth-habit and does best in the warm south in the shelter and protection of a south-facing wall. Hydrangea peruviana has very attractive lush evergreen elliptical foliage and panicles of creamy-white flowers borne throughout the summer months, the large sterile flowers to the outer edges of the inflorescence and the tiny greenish fertile flowers without petals to the centre.
A very showy and choice plant. Recommended.
