Azorella trifurcata, Emerald Carpet, is a tough ground-hugging plant from South America that forms a low spreading mat with tiny rosettes of feathery foliage that look soft but are actually quite brittle. In summer, it produces small yellow flowers.
Azorella trifurcata can be found from Tierra del Fuego through into Patagonia and beyond and is fully hardy in the UK, requiring full sun and a well-drained gritty substrate that doesn't completely dry out. Ideal for gravel beds and growing over rocks.
