It has a multi-branched habit with small cylindrical stems and tiny hair-like spines. The stems of Rhipsalis burchellii are somewhat stouter the Rhipsalis cereuscula. It develops a pendant habit over time and is ideal as a houseplant in a hanging-basket and can be kept outdoors during the summer months but care is needed to makes sure it only gets indirect light or it will turn pinkish-red in the sun.
Rhipsalis burchellii has small white flowers that are followed by rose-magenta coloured berries.
