Canna 'Stuttgart' is a legendary tall canna cultivar with spectacular variegated foliage that - rather than having narrow stripes - has large wide patches of cream or white variegation on the green foliage. Sometimes these patches are so large they encompass the entire leaf; sometimes they are broad stripes; sometimes the leaf is entirely green: more usually the leaf has large areas of cream/white and large areas of green. The foliage is upright and lance-shaped and the green is sometimes rather glaucous. With a vigorous growth habit the effect is stunning and in summer the foliage is capped by inflorescences of delicate apricot flowers which can bring the overall height to over 3 metres tall.
The foliage has a tendency to turn brown at the edges. This will usually happen no matter what you do to try to prevent it. Growing Canna 'Stuttgart' in shade can minimise this and putting it in full sun as you would other Canna cultivars is to be avoided. Give it plenty of water throughout the growing season and regular liquid feeds - about once a week.
