Canna warszewiczii has small delicate red flowers, darkened purple-red stems and foliage that has a purple-red margin. Taxonomically it is considered a synonym of Canna indica or Canna indica var. warszewiczii but those who grow it usually retain this name to help distinguish it from the many other forms that go under the name of Canna indica. This is not necessarily wilful rebellion against the existing canna taxonomy - although canna taxonomy certainly is a mess - but rather a practical horticultural expediency of preserving among growers the differing forms. The overall nomenclature is further confused by it usually being mispelled as Canna warscewiczii. When enough people do this, even Google gets confused and its algorithim returns Canna warscewiczii as the correct spelling. Shame on you Google, get fact-checking... nobody else seems to...
Tall, elegant and refined, Canna warszewiczii has an intense colour and presence that make many of the big blousey hybrids look rather ordinary.
