Graceful, elegant and with a very zen-like quality, Hakonechloa macra 'Aureola'' is a grass that lends itself well to urban courtyard gardens and contemporary design. It prefers moist shade and to my eye, the colour in shade is best: a deep rich lime green and gold. In the sun it becomes paler, more yellow.
