Asarum canadense, Canada Wild Ginger, is a woodland ground-covering herbaceous perennial native to the USA and Canada. It has glossy, green kidney-shaped to heart-shaped foliage creating a dense lush carpet for a moist shady or partially-shaded location. In Spring, tiny maroon-brown flowers are borne close to the ground. They are so small they are usually hidden by the leaves but a quick search during May will often reveal their exotic nature with three tiny petals whose exterior surface is covered in fuzzy pale hairs.
