Hippeastrum vittatum is a choice species Hippeastrum that although native to Bolivia is usually quoted as being from Peru. It is a variable species with some plants being predominantly white and others being more red. Our accession is predominantly red with each petal having a beautiful white central stripe giving it its characteristic star-like appearance. Many hybrids have been derived from this species but - to my mind - no hybrid can rival it. It may be smaller than some of the 'monster' Hippeastrum cultivars one encounters but its simple charm is hard to beat. An utterly beautiful member of the Amaryllid family.
