Asclepias incarnata 'Ice Ballet', is a selected cultivar of the naturally occurring white-flowering form of Swamp Milkweed, most usually found in Missouri although the more usual pinkish-purple flowering form is widespread across the USA and north into eastern Canada. In our experience, this germinates true to the cultivar...although we wouldn't complain if some purple flowering Asclepias incarnata came through from time to time! It is a hardy Asclepias and will survive down to at least -7C and probably more. It thrives in heavy, wet soils although it will do well in most locations as long as it has adequate water. The umbels of pure-white star-shaped flowers appear throughout the summer and have a delicate fragrance. Like all Asclepias species it is a magnet to butterflies.
