Cordyline australis, the New Zealand Cabbage Tree is a palm-like plant with long strappy foliage and a tall trunk or multiple branching trunks. Usually grown for its exotic appearance it also has highly scented white flowers in summer when mature.
Cordyline australis is hardy throughout the cold temperate region and has been established in Great Britain for many years. It quickly establishes itself and provides a bold dramatic effect far faster than any palm is capable of. It is drought tolerant and prefers a fertile but dryish well-drained soil in full sun to partial shade.
