Sasa palmata 'Nebulosa', Palm-Leaf Bamboo, is an extremely robust and vigourous bamboo from Japan, hardy to at least -18°C and capable of surviving the toughest of British winters. Sasa palmata 'Nebulosa' has an exotic tropical-looking foliage which has leaves arranged in a broad hand-shaped formation resembling a palm giving a very lush jungle atmosphere and creating an extremely attractive canopy. It is however also a plant that will very quickly spread by its vigourous underground runners and is therefore a bamboo that needs to be used with a through understanding of this rather difficult habit. It is ideal in a large outdoors container. It can be used in a permanent contained area where its growth is constrained by strong masonary with deep foundations. It may be used with extra strength root barrier.
Great thought and care needs to be exercised with using Sasa palmata 'Nebulosa'. It is an extremely attractive and very tropical-looking bamboo. In the right location or in a large container it is exotic eye-candy. In the wrong location it will generate problems.
