Asphodeline lutea, King’s Spear, Jacob's Rod or Yellow Asphodel, is a hardy rhizomatous perennial endemic to the eastern Mediterranean with narrow, linear, grassy-like, gray-green leaves with cylindrical racemes of fragrant yellow star-shaped flowers. The flower scapes are tall and create a bold vertical accent in the garden. There is something indefinably attractive about the flowers of Yellow Asphodel... a perfect star-shape; an intensely bright colour; fragrance; a flowering cycle that goes on and on for ages and all held together on a tall, robust, architectural form... perfect really... the bees seem to like them too...
