Ornithogalum thyrsoides, Chincherinchee is a well-known perennial geophyte with exceptionally beautiful clusters of white bowl-shaped flowers held high above the green fleshy foliage in a tall raceme. The flowers which usually appear in July have a contrasting dark eye and a light fragrance. They make perfect cut flowers, lasting up to two weeks and are thus a favourite in floristry.

They require a sunny sheltered location and should be kept well-watered throughout the spring. The foliage dies back after flowering. Not fully hardy in most parts of the UK, the bulbs are best dug up after flowering and kept in a frost-free environment until planting again in early spring.
