Hosta 'Sum and Substance' is a large impressive Hosta with yellow-green strongly-ribbed foliage that forms a sizeable clump over time. The pale lilac flowers are a bonus which also make charming cut flowers. Although reputed to have more resistance to slugs and snails than most Hostas it is best to be safe than sorry; we always use organic ferric-based slug protection but a garlic-based liquid dressing is also very effective.

Like all Hostas it will do best in a moist shady location with a humus-rich soil.
