Iris pseudacorus, the Yellow Flag, is a robust tall-growing Iris with erect glaucous green leaves reaching up to 1m or more in length and an elegant bright yellow flower held aloft during the summer months. Native to Europe, the Mediterranean, parts of Western Asia and Northwest Africa, it inhabits low-lying freshwater habitats and brackish marshes. In the UK it can be found growing along the margins of ponds and in water meadows, river courses, fens, swamps, reed beds and other wetlands. In cultivation it is useful as an aquatic or water marginal or in a bog garden or in other areas where drainage is poor. Ideal for wildlife gardens, it attracts both bees and damselflies.
