- Striking architectural form
- Long thin curving needle-like foliage
- Full sun
- Pefect drainage
Agave striata ssp striata is a stunningly beautiful highly ornamental Agave from NE Mexico where it grows in extensive populations on dry calcareous plains in full sun, spreading into large colonies with its offsetting habit. It has long thin leaves like curved knitting needles thickening with age to the width of long curved pencils that have no marginal spines at all but a sharp terminal spine. Its spherical shape and extremely elegant foliage make it an ideal accent plant in a xerophytic garden or as a desirable container specimen. Agave striata ssp striata's relatively small size also lends itself well to container growth and in colder regions of the country, it may be best to grow it as a container plant, bringing it into a glasshouse for the winter.
Although not rare, Agave striata ssp striata is rarely seen in Britsh gardens and it should be used more often. Its sculptural spiky porcupine-like form is extremely eye-catching and hopefully more and more people - exotic gardeners and designers alike - will begin to incorporate it into their planting schemes.
Large plants. Bargain! Highly recommended. These are big plants!
