Roscoea purpurea is a vigourous hardy ginger from the Himalayas where at grows at elevations of 1500-3100m in cool often shady or semi-shady aspects. A strong growing Roscoea, its stems are robust and upright usually to 50-60cm in height with a purplish colouration. Although the species can be variable for flower colour the flowers on this clone are a strong dark purple and are highly attractive.
