Persicaria microcephala 'Red Dragon'
Persicaria microcephala 'Red Dragon' is a horticultural cultivar of Persicaria microcephala. Persicaria microcephala is itself given as a synonym of Polygonum microcephalum by The Plant List. Whatever its exact taxonomic status, this cultivar is now fairly well-known having had a plant patent filed by C. Greg Speichert in 1991. It is characterised by its purple-brown coloured spring foliage, red stems and its clump-forming habit of growth. It is a strong-growing herbaceous perennial, reaching to between 60-100cm and does best in full sun with a well-watered moist soil throughout the spring and summer growing season. The small white flowers are relatively insignificant and it for the dramatic foliage that it is grown.
Unlicenced propagation of 'Red Dragon' is prohibited.
