Pachysandra terminalis, Japanese Spurge is a low ground-covering carpeting evergreen with attractive rosettes of foliage and a small creamy-white inflorescence that is borne in spring. It is extremely hardy, sustaining severe frosts and deep snow and is used extensively in landscaping large areas particularly in northeastern USA where its ability to survive prolonged periods of subzero temperatures has made it something of a mainstay. Not a spectacular plant by any means but invaluable where a reliable no-maintenance groundcover is needed. It clumps up readily and spreads by underground stolons and as long as it gets some water will tolerate the meanest soils.
