Meconopsis 'Lingholm'
Meconopsis 'Lingholm' is the best of the cultivars of the 'Fertile Blue Group' of the Himalayan Blue Poppy and is often erroneously sold by the nursery trade and by garden centres as the species, Meconopsis betonicifolia. It is distinguished from Meconopsis betonicifolia by its elegant elongated foliage which often bristles with long golden-brown hairs. The pale blue flowers are desired by all who see them but these blue Meconopsis have acquired a somewhat unwarranted reputation for being difficult...
What Meconopsis 'Lingholm' requires is a cool moist location in dappled shade with moist organically-rich soil which is either neutral or acidic. Its dislike of lime extends to the water supply and if you live in an alkaline hard-water area you will need to water it with rain-water. Such a small effort for such beautiful rewards.
