Kniphofia caulescens
Kniphofia caulescens, Lesotho Red Hot Poker, is an impressive Kniphofia with tall inflorescences that are a pale coral pinkish-orange. This pastel hue is particularly charming and makes a very useful addition to the design pallette when a softer tone is required. The skirt of pale yellow flowers on the lower part of the raceme is in perfect tonal harmony with the soft coral orange. The distinctive grey-blue foliage is somewhat architectural and contrasts well with the flowers.
In is native range Kniphofia caulescens is found on moist soil on the high montane slopes and cliffs of the Drakensberg.
In the northern hemisphere this species flowers late, usually not until early September and is a welcome addition to late summer/early autumn colour.
Recommended.
