Ismene longipetala, one of many plants that go by the common name of Spider Lily, is a particularly delicate and elegant species with long curling white petals and extremely long white filaments and yellow anthers. It is spider-like but it is a very glamourous spider. Ismene longipetala is one of the parents of the hybrid Ismene x festalis, but it is more delicate in appearance and with longer petals.
They like moist, warm locations in either full sun or partial shade with good drainage around the bulb. They form many offsets and can be divided every year when they need to be lifted for the winter.
