Alocasia odora, Giant Taro or Night-Scented Taro, is a large impressive aroid from SE Asia and Melanesia with dramatic upward-pointing foliage that is ovate and prominently ribbed on the lower abaxial surface. Larger specimens bear a mildly sweet-smelling inflorescence with a greenish spathe and a cream spadix.
Easy to grow and much more cold-tolerant than a Colocasia, it nonetheless should be brought indoors for the winter dormant period in the UK.
Water and feed lavishly in summer and keep dry in winter.
