Fritillaria meleagris, Snake's Head Fritillary is the well-known and much-loved native Fritillaria with purplish-maroon flowers that are patterned in pale purple spots like the scaled skin of a snake. It is charming and elegant and has an air of exotic beauty. One of the easiest of all Fritillarias in cultivation it requires little more than a well-drained soil and a sunny aspect.
In nature, cream flowered variations occur within the populations and this mixed selection will also include some that are cream-flowered. These cream-flowered bulbs are different from the white-flowered cultivar 'Alba' which sells at a premium.
