Trillium luteum

Trillium luteum, Yellow Trillium or Yellow Wakerobin, is a highly desirable and graceful woodlander that is relatively easy and reliable, producing its flowers in early to mid Spring, usually in May in the UK. Its three-petaled flowers are yellow and beautifully-veined and sit atop three sepals and three leaves (strictly these are bracts) which are mottled with silver and darker splotches in random and unique patterns. If you get down close to these blooms you will enjoy a delicious and subtle fragrance.

Trillium luteum enjoys a fully or partially shaded aspect, ideally beneath the dappled interplay of overhanging foliage. It requires a humus-rich soil into which plenty of leaf mold has been added and which is both moist yet well-drained.
