Phlomis russeliana, Turkish Sage is an attractive tall-growing hardy perennial with large soft spearhead-shaped leaves and exotic clusters of pale-yellow hooded flowers that encircle the stem at intervals like a spire of yellow quoits or coronets. In time it forms an impressive large clump and during the summer months when it is flowering, the bees go crazy for it.
It is extremely easy to grow prefering a sunny aspect and tolerating dry conditions.
It can be cut back in the autumn when the stems become straggly or it can be left throughout the winter when the skeletal spires will form interesting shapes in the morning frost.
