Arundo donax, Giant Spanish Reed, is a giant grass growing to 4m tall with lush green very exotic foliage. It requires full sun and a moist root run and as it can spread to occupy a large area it is important to make sure you have enough room for it in a permanent position.
The leaves die back in autumn and turn brown and should be left on the plant to give it extra protection throughout the winter. It is hardy in most areas of the UK although it may need mulching in some colder regions. Cut back the old growth in Spring to invigorate and stimulate growth in the new shoots.
