Dahlia 'Verrone's Obsidian'
- Dark purple-black Star Dahlia
- Pollinator-friendly blooms
- Delicate wiry stems
- Lift tubers for winter
Dahlia 'Verrone's Obsidian' was developed by American hybridiser Roland Verrone. It was grown to first flower in 2007, introduced in 2011 and registered as a cultivar on the Dahlia Register in 2013. It is a Star Dahlia in every sense of the word and in the short time it has been known to the world it has become just about everyone's favourite Dahlia. It has relatively small flowers - about 9cm across - and the outer florets are a very dark purple around a yellow centre. This black/purple colour and the pollinator-friendly star shape is a winning combination and creates a truly head-turning visual impact yet is subtle and understated compared to some of the much larger Dahlia blooms. Roland Verrone is one of the most successful of the modern hybridisers working today and from his 5 acre nursery in Yelm, Washington has produced a steady stream of award-winning Dahlias.
Highly recommended. An outstanding cultivar.
