Crocosmia 'George Davison' is a relatively compact and short-stemmed Crocosmia with sprays of chrome yellow flowers opening from golden-coloured buds held just above the sword-shaped foliage.
In 1895, George Davison, was working as the Head Gardener at Westwick Hall in North Norfolk for Lt-Col Bernard James Petre. Davison, named his first hybrid after himself and it was awarded an RHS Award of Merit in 1902. Now thought of as the father of British Crocosmia breeding, he went on to create a further 11 hybrids before turning his attention to breeding apples in 1912.
One of the first cultivars to flower each year, Crocosmia 'George Davison' is a very easy grower, bringing a sunny sense of joy throughout its long flowering season.
Enjoys full sun although it will take some shade in a warm sheltered aspect. Water well during the growing season. Best in a free-draining sandy soil.
Highly recommended.
