Canna 'Perkeo'
Canna 'Perkeo' is a particularly beautiful pastel coral pink flowering Canna that darkens a little after first opening to a deep carmine colour. It has narrow petals (staminodes) that are distinctly separate from each other and openly-spaced giving the entire bloom a sense of refined delicacy. The small thin labellum curls down and around sharply in a graceful curve accentuating the refined quality of this flower.
Canna 'Perkeo' was originally introduced to the market in 1949 by the German company Wilhelm Pfitzer of Stadt Fellbach who, since their original inception in 1844, introduced over 300 new Canna cultivars gathering over 270 International awards until they eventually stopped working with Cannas in the 1950's.
The later Pfitzer hybrids were typically shorter dwarf cultivars but we find 'Perkeo' grows quite tall - our range regularly reach up to 2m. It has handsome green foliage that are an excellent contrast to the flowers and have all the exotic foliage quotient one could wish for in a Canna.
