Canna 'Golden Lucifer'
Canna 'Golden Lucifer' is a very attractive dwarf-growing Crozy Group cultivar with golden-yellow staminodes heavily and randomly speckled with fine reddish-orange spots. A small to medium-sized cultivar 'Golden Lucifer' is of the same stature as the shorter-height hybrids introduced by the German firm, Wilhem Pfitzer. First appearing in the 1990's, 'Golden Lucifer' is very similar to 'Le Tigre', the 1884 Pierre Antoine Marie Crozy introduction that appeared in Pfitzer's 1890 Catalogue. It may be a remarketing exercise that is characteristic of some sectors of the horticultural industry, particularly in Europe and the USA. Pfitzer stopped breeding Cannas in the 1950's and it is possible this is an American re-introduction under a new name. Nontheless, 'Golden Lucifer' is a stunning Canna and its vibrantly speckled colouration has made it a very popular choice, winning many new admirers to the growing of Cannas.
