Dichelostemma 'Pink Diamond' is a stunning selected form of a naturally occuring hybrid which has Dichelostemma ida-maia in its parentage with possibly Dichelostemma multiflorum as the other parent. Dichelostemma congestum and Dichelostemma volubile have both also been suggested as candidates in its parentage. It has the same distinctive clusters of pendulous flowers with an extended tubular perianth as Dichelostemma ida-maia - although not quite as extended in length - and also has the same reflexed tips. It has borrowed its soft pink colouration from the other genetic parent with the reflexed tips being a paler pinkish-white and has attractive and delicate extended whitish anthers.
Its continues flowering through much of the summer and like Dichelostemma ida-maia it requires a well-drained sandy soil and a dry dormant period after it has flowered. All watering should stop after flowering.
An unusual exotic talking point. Recommended.
