Bergenia 'Claire Maxine' is a choice cultivar with crinkled glossy dark reddish-plum and bronze coloured foliage that is darkest in winter with a dense reddish-purple on the underside of the leaf. Turning more green during the warmer months but often a mix of coppery-purple and dark green flushed with red, it bears its pink flowers in March through to May. 'Claire Maxine' does well in either full sun or partial shade with a moist, humus-rich soil, slowly forming a sizeable clump.
Bergenia 'Claire Maxine' performed well in the 2007-2009 RHS Bergenia Trials and was awarded an AGM.
