Arisaema flavum
Arisaema flavum is a smaller-scale miniature Arisaema with a wide distribution from East Africa across to China. It has a small yellow inflorescence with a maroon/brown throat and with a spathe that is usually folded down upon itself often giving it a somewhat comical appearance with more than a passing resemblence to the beaked head of a daffy yellow bird. It is more tolerant of dry conditions than most Arisaemas and with good drainage and a generous mulch is hardy throughout most of the UK.
Arisaema flavum usually breaks dormancy in the UK in late May to early June and growth is rapid, the pedately divided leaf (similar to the foliage of Pinellia pedatisecta) is quickly followed by the tiny yellow inflorescence even on relatively young and small plants. Unlike other Arisaemas it is monoecious and readily sets seed.
Highly recommended. Limited quantities only. These are sold not as tubers but as small yet flowering-size emerging plants in 9cm pots.
